Pretec, the 1st in the world to offer highest capacity SD 1.0 card (4GB) and fastest (133X) in the world since July of 2005, Pretec has consistently pioneered the highest capacity and fastest SD card, with 1st SDHC (8GB) card in the world compliant with SD
specification 2.0 working with video camcorders of Sanyo Electrical Co., Ltd. of Japan in Sept. of 2006, and the 1st SDXC (32GB) card in the world since March of 2009, continues today its record breaking history to offer the 1st commercially available eMMC 4.5 for embedded storage applications such as mobile phones, tablet and mobile PCs, to be exhibited at Computex 2012 (Nangang Exhibition Hall, Booth K0915a).
Reliability enhancements include Power-Off Notification, which makes possible a more robust and safer power-down routine; as well as Dynamic Device Capacity, which provides a mechanism to increase device life time when the eMMC device has reached its end-of-life, giving the user an opportunity to retrieve critical data from the device before disposal. V4.5 also adds the capability for the device to retrieve Real-Time Clock information from the host system, which may be used by the device internal memory management to improve data integrity and reliability. In addition, eMMC 4.5 provides features to better meet the requirements of the end applications, including enhanced partition attributes for system code and temporary data and separate data removal mechanisms. All performance and reliability enhancements offer designers additional options to improve system performance for the end user.
Capacities initially offered from Pretec are 8GB and 16GB in June in the format of 14X18X1.4mm, which will be extended from 2GB~32GB in the near future, with Read/Write speed of up to 60/30 MB/s, Pretec eMMC performance is better than most of the leading brands in the field (v4.4X), the dimension will be shrinking to 11.5X13X1.3mm in the future. The combination of eMMC 4.5 together with mobile DRAM or LPDDR II, called eMCP, will be available from Pretec in Q3, which will further reduce the footprint of the PCB design for mobile phones and tablet PCs. Pretec eMMC 4.5 8GB and 16GB will start sampling immediately after Computex in June.
Pretec will also launch the eMMC/eMCP testing and programming services for customers through its subsidiary TestOne Electronics Corp. (a joint venture with Testmetrix) this month, since many new smart phones or tablet PCs require pre-loading the OS such as Android or Window Mobile, so a high performance programmer is needed for mass production. The semi-automatic high performance desktop eMMC tester/programmer 8010S is the latest development from Testmetrix, which utilizes JEDEC-like tray kit to test/program up to 120 devices in parallel, the system will sense the tray insertion and start the test/program cycle automatically; upon the completion of the test/programming operation, the tray-kit is automatically ejected. The monthly throughput for the programming of fully-loaded Pretec 8GB eMMC is around 800K units for a single machine.
Testing in high/low temperature chamber with extended temperature range from -40 ~ +85°C is also available (model 8010T), and can make TestOne’s high performance and high throughput eMMC/eMCP testing/programming services complete with optional reliability guarantees through dynamic industrial temperature testing.
