【開箱簡測】ASUS ThunderboltEX 5 擴充卡效能簡測 (圖多)

Intel JHL8xxx系列Thunderbolt控制器推出已一段時間,僅支援
PCIe 3.0的規格,在ASM4242推出後顯得過時,因此Intel推出新一
代9系列Thunderbolt控制器。

9系列的控制器只有JHL9480/9580為Thunderbolt 5控制器,另兩
款仍歸屬在Thunderbolt 4控制器,直接看原廠規格差異比較表。

目前新一代Z890系列主機板,各家大多預留TB4 Header的接頭以供
消費者選購USB4/TB5擴充子卡,以2024年11月觀察,推出
Thunderbolt 5子卡的只有技嘉跟華碩,微星這次不像推ASM4242
那麼積極。此外,華碩也推出內建TB5晶片的主機板,Extreme及
ProArt系列可見其蹤。


在華碩官網看到這張ThunderboltEX 5的資料,就很好奇它加了什

跟以前TB2/TB3/TB4/USB4擴充卡一樣,僅能搭ASUS主機板使用,無
法搭其它家主機板混用,也只能在ASUS Z890系列主機板使用,X870、
X870E、X670E或是Z790還不在官方支援的主機板行列,期待ASUS未
來放寬至這些不支援的自家主機板。

過去玩Intel Thunderbolt系列都是搭主機板在玩,比較少單獨買子
卡,繼近期購入ASUS USB4擴充子卡(ASM4242)後,因為主機板預留
了TB4接頭,看到ASUS產品在通路上市後就下訂入手一張。

取下金屬蓋,整個TB5元件,除了主控外均一覽無遺,考慮到主控散熱
片下似乎黏著散熱膏,怕破保就先不拆來看。

這張擴充卡的內接頭接孔,除了USB 2.0、TB4 Header,仍維持單PCIe
電源接頭,說真的,我也不知技嘉改成雙PCIe接頭的用意,至少以目前
的電源供應器線材來說,單PCIe接頭的使用彈性為大些。

後置擋板提供2組Type C接頭及3組MINI DP接頭,這是與USB4擴充卡採
標準DP接頭很大的差異,其實國內廠商在擴充卡擋板的工業設計似乎比
陸廠落後,還是採金屬原色,用久就會有繡痕。陸廠近期對這些儲存擴
充子卡的後擋板逐漸採霧黑設計,可避免用久以後的醜態畢露。

本想去海外訂TB5 SSD外接盒,幾乎都賣光找不到。基於之前TB4環境下
搭載ASM2464PD時,部分測試軟體會出現效能低落的情況,本篇測試分
為兩個部分,分別測試搭載TB4外接盒及USB4外接盒的效能簡單陳示,
至於多螢幕在TB5環境表現就不在本篇測試。

測試至此,作個簡單的測試結論:


若以純粹Thunderbolt儲存環境觀察,JHL9580或許與SSD外接盒常用的
JHL65xx/7540等的契合度不像JHL8540來得那麼好,當然新品上市還需
要點時間磨合,在等待純粹Thunderbolt 5 SSD外接盒問市前,也沒其
它的選擇可更換。

但若是搭配asmedia ASM2464PD相關的USB4外接盒,很明顯的,JHL9580
與asmedia晶片組合的相容性比舊款JHL8540來得好,不僅不會出現意外
離線或其它怪事,整體速率的平穩性也比在JHL8540來得好些。


本篇測試僅抓幾個常見軟體的截圖來觀察,等有時間把所有數據整理完後,
改天再PO份完整的系列評比。
